A new video has been published presenting the development of Wiktionary from 2002 to 2026 using an animated data visualization. It is a visual story about global collaboration and the building of multilingual knowledge by communities from around the world.
The video features a bar chart race, illustrating year-by-year changes in the number of entries across more than 100 Wiktionary language editions. Each bar represents a single language version, with rankings shifting over time as different communities expand at varying rates. The video highlights the scale and dynamics of one of the world’s largest multilingual dictionary projects developed through open collaboration.
