On 19-20 July 2018 the first workshop on Blockchain and Smart Contract Technologies (BSCT 2018) was held. The workshop was organized during the 21st edition of the Business Information Systems Conference at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS in Berlin.
The introduction of the bitcoin protocol in 2008 was a landmark event that initiated a new era of decentralization in information systems. After a ten-year incubation period, blockchain technology has matured enough to become the basis for many applications used by various industries. Until now, this technology was mainly the domain of innovative business models and startups. The aim of the BSCT 2018 workshop was to create a forum for both practitioners and scientists, whose goal was an open exchange of innovative ideas related to the blockchain technology.
The co-organizers of the workshop were:
- prof. Erich Schweighofer (University of Vienna, Austria),
- dr Saulius Masteika (Vilnius University, Lithuania),
- dr Piotr Stolarski (Poznań University of Economics and Busines, Poland).
Almost 50 articles by 63 authors were submitted for the first edition of the workshop on Blockchain and Smart Contract Technologies. Out of them 21 were selected for the presentation during the workshop. The Program Committee consisted of 30 members. The articles that received the best reviews will then be published in the BIS Workshop proceedings in the Springer Lecture Notes series in Business Information Processing.
