QOD 2018 – the first international workshop on quality of open data

On 20 July 2018 the first workshop on Quality of Open Data (QOD 2018) was organized. It took place during the 21st edition of the Business Information Systems Conference (BIS 2018) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS in Berlin.

The aim of the workshop was to gather a community dealing with the subject of information quality in portals like Wikipedia, DBpedia, Wikidata and other open knowledge bases. QOD focused on sharing research experience and knowledge related to the evaluation of the quality of open data. The submitted papers concerned methods and techniques that can help verify and enrich services created by communities in different language versions. The invited keynote speaker was Amrapali Zaveri from Maastricht University (the Netherlands), who gave a lecture on “Data quality and FAIR data principles”.

The co-organizers of the Workshop on Quality of Open Data were dr Amrapali Zaveri (Maastricht University), dr Krzysztof Węcel and Włodzimierz Lewoniewski (Poznań University of Economics and Business).

To the QOD workshop 11 papers were submitted, of of which six best papers were selected for presentation. The Program Committee consisted of 21 members who assisted the organizers in the review process. The presented articles will then be published in the BIS Workshop proceedings in the Springer Lecture Notes series in Business Information Processing.
